Holdyn's Bath History

This is how Holdyn's first bath went...

Not Great. His mom was in way worse shape than him! But then, brilliant Aunt Nicole told us to wrap him up in a towel and put him in the bath...

It went much better! And ever since then, he has loved his baths. We went from the newborn tub in the sink, to the bigger than newborn but not quite infant tub in the sink...

We got to the point where we practically had to fold him to fit in the tub...

So mom finally gave in and got him a big boy tub and man did he love it!...

Then, all of a sudden, he started screaming hysterically when we would put him in the bath. It was as if we were putting him in boiling hot water. Total melt down. So we tried different temperatures, different toys, different bath times. Sometimes he would do great and other times he would freak! So we discovered one trick that worked every time...

But, as you can expect, Daddy wasn't able to do this every night and I'm pretty sure his back would start to hurt soon! So Dad then resorted to showering with Holdyn, which seemed to go over better. But from my one, very slippery, shower with Holdyn, I learned that it's very easy for a soapy, 23 lb baby to slither out of your arms. So I decided that we needed to come up with something else. That something else was take away all the baby tubs and drop in some fizzy things that change the water colors. This was the result....

One happy, hydrated half purple boy! Success! One problem solved, 701 million more to go!

One Year Ago

This is what me and Holdyn were doing one year ago today...

I remember that day so well. Holdyn was 1 month old. Daddy was at the Bees game so we were just hanging out at home. Grandma Diane called and asked if we would come to La Caille. She was having brunch with Great Grandma and Grandpa Lord. So we ran over and I was a little apprehensive! But it was very nice. Holdyn was an angel. We walked around the grounds and relaxed for a couple hours. It was so nice. Then Cory came home and was so bummed he missed Holdyn's first trip to La Caille. That's what he gets for leaving us! I can't believe Holdyn was that little. I miss it so much. This is what I'm dealing with now!...

I guess he is a lot cuter and a lot more fun now!

"Sweet" Little Boy

So last night I was loving my little boy and thinking about how well behaved he's been recently. It was my favorite part of the day... Right after Holdyn gets done with dinner and I am getting him nakey for his shower with dad. After he is all free from the awful restriction of clothes and diaper, he likes to stand up on his changing table, put his head on my shoulder, and we slow dance. It really is the sweetest thing in the world. He lets this happen for about 2 minutes before he realizes that his dad is in the shower without him and he's done with his mom. Anyway, after I handed him off to the way-more-fun dad, I started thinking about how sweet my little boy is. I mean, how many one year olds like to dance with their moms? And then 20 minutes later I found myself having to use both hands and my left foot to get that "sweet" little boy's diaper on because the way-mean-mom took him out of the shower and he was pissed! So I am appreciating the sweet moments more and more. It's such a roller coaster!

On another note, Holdyn had his 1 year check up yesterday. He has always been very funny at Dr appointments. He has this curious, amused, little smile on his face the entire time the Dr is examining him. He laughs when the Dr looks in his ears... he tried to hit the nurse after she gave him his shots... And according to the doctor, KABOOM is not a typical word one year olds say! Holdyn can make anything fun, even a Dr appointment!

Summer Lounging

I cannot tell you how much I enjoy lounging by the pool on a hot day. We swam Saturday and Sunday and I never got that "I can't wait for this hellish heat to end, I'm going to melt right into the ground" feeling. I assume it's because we were water logged a lot of the weekend. Holdyn loves to swim and as long as there is a ledge he can stand on, he'll play in the pool for hours. He's our little brown boy. He definitely has his mom's skin. Our weekend was topped off by Grandma V packing us up BBQed pork and steak, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob. So we put our baby to bed, turned on Big Brother and had our feast! And as a side note, I really love Big Brother. I know it's trashy and embarrassing, but I get so excited when it's on! I love the summer!

Anniversary #2

So last year, I was so high on pain killers from popping out that 9.5 lb creature, that I don't remember me and Cory's anniversary. So this year, I wanted to do something extra fun. The only problem is... We are trying to pay everything off so we can get a house in the next decade. So I decided camping would be the cheapest fun thing we could do. I have not camped in a tent for an extremely long time so I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried. Especially since we were camping in human-hungry bear territory. Our campsite was beautiful, we were right on the banks of a beautiful river and had nothing around us but bear-loving back country. We fished, made smores, played Uno (I am the champion), took the CRV on some questionable trails, and just enjoyed our time with each other. It was all fun and games until I almost died. I thought it would be fun to go to the Mt Timponogas Caves. Never ever again. The hike up to the caves almost did me in for good. As some of you know, I don't really like to move, so this was probably a lot harder on me than most. Cory was amazing and gave me lots of motivation to keep going. I really wanted Cory to see the caves as he had never been there before, so that's what kept me going. That and lots of resting! The caves were very neat and I'm glad I did it. We packed up early the next day and headed for Lagoon! Yes, I love Lagoon and was happy to spend my anniversary there! The white roller coaster is still my favorite, although that Wicked through us both for a loop! It honestly could not have been a better weekend. For some reason, camping is one of the most romantic things in my book. I love my husband and I hope we can continue to work hard and still be happy for our 50th anniversary.
